My Experience as an International Education Counselor
There have been revolutionary changes in the education system. It has become more glamorized and profitable now-a-days. It is offering easily available and widespread information. USA has always been a booming centre for education and a dream for many aspirants. Thus Educational or career fairs are taking the centre stage. Being a part of one International fair as a counselor I can surely tell you that they offer a platform to compare information about different colleges, universities and various courses and their future option. Indian students are being encouraged by the foreign Universities to study to study abroad and offer irresistible scholarships as well. My USA director of Florida Institute of Technology, Mrs. Stephanie Enstice invited me over to the fair after a personal meeting with her to help her out as a representative of the college and counselor as I am admitted for Pre-Med major course. The unique fair was held at Oberio Grand Hotel of Kolkata. On entering I could see fully prepared parents and directors of various Universities ready for their questions. Mostly Graduates and Post Graduates & Doctorates were coming to know their wider scope in USA. Frequently asked question were about the standardized test scores taken in India & the required marks of SAT & TOEFL for undergraduates & for graduates it was GRE,GMAT & GPA scores, scholarship availability as well several new courses were checked up. Fee structure was utmost important and eligibility criteria was considered. Every USA University is very different from each other. The best thing they offer is solving each & every query you have. Plenty of colleges may not offer all UG, GRAD, PHD or Doctorate lever studies. There are private as well as community colleges. The only difference is that community colleges have a larger student-teacher ratio making interactions with students rare depriving them of many opportunities while private colleges having less student-teacher ratio offer great opportunity to know each students personally & guide them well. Research options are vast in every college and as for FIT being situated near Kennedy Space Centre of NASA was an added plus point. Quality professors and number of research papers issued by the college determines their rank witch helps the student decide its options. In many colleges scholarship increase per year. There is a flexible mode of education prevailing there as you change your college in the second year based on your semester marks. You can even change your stream or course after entering the college. I realize each college is very student friendly. Dealing with all level of students I found one thing common aim & determination to make it BIG. Though same people were seen loitering around for no use collecting broachers but many determined students had found their destination. It was an very exciting thrilling experience. It’s not a name USA but the quality of education, flexibility in course, variety and short span of courses & scholarship which attracts top notch students towards it. Stephanie was a great company & I learned a lot about USA educational system. After I have discussed with Dr. Richard C. Johnson, Director of University of Sanfrancisco, He explained that this college has 8,500 students. They are joined their from various part of world. Johan Mohd Sani, director of State University of New York at Geneseo has good infrastructure for their students abou study, campus, library etc. Jennifer Pawlowski, Director of University of Missoui-Kansas city. Who explained that in their University each student should qualify SAT or TOFEL score should be high standard. John F. Eriksen of Brayant University very much helpful about Indian Students & their quality. Apart from these universities Roger Williams University, Pace University, St. Johns University etc.
